I get my love for china from my mom.
She truly is the queen of all things homey: table settings, vintage pieces, flowers, everything!
After picking out, registering, and receiving our wedding china, I can’t wait to have a china closet of our own and be able to use it!
These days, in the south and in even more so in the north, a lot of people only register for everyday china and not fine china because they don’t think they’ll use it.
Which is a valid point, however, growing up, my family always used different variations of china so that’s what I’m used to.
Collecting china is definitely a hobby and one that I, my mom, my grandmother, and some of my aunts, really enjoy.
My mom gets asked (and I get asked to ask her!) where she finds her china. So, I asked her, and this is what she said:
Mom says that her favorite thing to do is to pick up a few pieces from a local shop every time she goes on trip because it reminds her of that place.
Most of her china has been passed down in our family from her mother and grandmother (the best way to get vintage china!)
Mom’s most impressive collection is her blue and white plates. Some were handed down from my mom’s mom (my grandmother) and every birthday, my grandmother would pick up a few from an antique shop to give to mom to add to her collection.
Those blue and white plates ended up being the ones we used at my rehearsal dinner.
My mom says that the best way to start collecting is to find a pattern that you like and let people know that you’re collecting it. This is great for when birthdays and holidays roll around!
Some of my favorite patterns I want to collect someday are:
Some great websites to find vintage china are Replacements, LTD, The Real Real, Chairish, and Etsy.
Do you collect china? Let me know what kind in the comments!
